Terry Franks
30 Years on Stage
For five decades, Terry Franks entertained audiences across the UK. From the early days with The Terriers in 1958, through the professional touring years with The Avalons in the 1960s, to the club circuit with Reflections and The Avalons from 1981 until retirement in 2006 — Terry lived for the stage.
A Career in Four Acts
The Terriers
1958–1960
Terry's first band, formed at just 17 years old. The beginning of a lifelong passion for performing.
The Avalons
1962–1964
Professional touring across the UK. EMI recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios. Sharing bills with rock & roll legends.
Reflections
1981–1993
After fifteen years away from regular performing, Terry returned to what he loved — entertaining audiences at clubs and private functions.
The Avalons Again
1993–2006
Renaming to honour the original band, The Avalons continued performing almost every weekend until a fitting retirement after 30 years on stage.
Sharing the Stage
Over his career, Terry and his bands performed on the same bills as some of Britain's biggest rock & roll stars:
- Cliff Richard — The original British rock & roll idol
- Johnny Kidd — "Shakin' All Over" hitmaker
- Gene Vincent — American rockabilly legend
- Marty Wilde — British rock & roll pioneer
- Joe Brown — "A Picture of You" singer
